Angelonia, widely known as the “Summer Snapdragon,” is a resilient, heat-loving plant from the Plantaginaceae family, native to the Americas. It thrives in tropical and subtropical climates, producing continuous spires of vibrant, orchid-like flowers in shades of purple, pink, white, and blue from spring through autumn.
Full Sun: They require bright, direct sunlight. In shadier spots, they will become leggy and produce far fewer flowers.
Water: Water deeply once or twice a week, especially during prolonged dry spells. Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between watering sessions to avoid root rot.
Soil: The single most important factor for Angelonia is rapid drainage. Their roots are highly prone to rot in saturated or heavy clay soils.
Pruning and Maintenance: Angelonia has a great “self-cleaning” habit, meaning it typically sheds its own dead flower heads without needing manual deadheading.
