African violets are small, flowering houseplants known for their velvety leaves and vibrant blooms, which can be various shades of purple, pink, red, or white. Originally from tropical East Africa, they are compact and low-growing, making them easy to care for indoors, even in limited spaces. They are part of the genus Streptocarpus (formerly Saintpaulia) and are popular for their long-lasting, year-round flowering.

African violets thrive with bright, indirect light, consistently moist (but not soggy) soil, and high humidity. Watering should be done with room temperature or slightly warmer water, avoiding getting water on the leaves, and fertilizer should be diluted and used regularly.
