The Clown Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus) is a vibrant, peaceful, top-dwelling nano fish from West Africa, known for its striking vertical bands and a male’s fiery, elongated tail fin, resembling a rocket. These tiny fish (around 1.5 inches) inhabit slow-moving, blackwater streams, preferring heavily planted tanks with dim light, dark substrate, and low water flow, making them ideal for nano aquariums with a tight lid to prevent jumping. They are carnivores, eating flakes, pellets, and small live foods, and are best kept in groups, with males ideally outnumbered by females.
