Cat’s Claw Plant / Dolichandra Unguis-Cati / Climbing Vine 猫爪藤 Pokok Menjalar

The cat’s claw plant (Dolichandra unguis-cati) is a fast-growing, woody climbing vine known for its bright yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers and distinctive three-pronged tendrils that resemble a cat’s claws.

Light and Placement:

Give the plant 6 to 7 hours of direct sunlight every day so it produces vibrant yellow flowers.

It can grow in partial shade, but it will bloom less.

Plant it near a wall, fence, or trellis because its claw-like tendrils grip surfaces easily.

Watering:

Water the young plant regularly during its first growing season to build strong roots.

Mature plants are very drought-tolerant and only need water during long dry spells.

Make sure the soil never stays soggy to prevent root rot.

Soil and Feeding:

Use well-draining soil mixed with sand, garden soil, and organic compost.

Feed it with a little organic compost once a month during the active growing season. Heavy chemical fertilizers are not needed.
